Paris (AFP) – French cyclist Julian Alaphilippe, who led for the bulk of the 2019 Tour de France, stated on Tuesday he will use following month’s Criterium du Dauphine to get ready for this year’s race.
Alaphilippe, 28, at some point had to bow to Group Ineos’ Egan Bernal with a few stages to go in past year’s race.
The biking period has been re-scheduled due to the coronavirus pandemic with the Tour setting up on August 29 with a September 20 end.
“I’m burning with drive to restart the season to see how I come to feel and what I can do,” Alaphilippe tweeted.
In a different statement from his Deceuninck-Quick Move team, Alaphilippe reported: “The Criterium du Dauphine is the ideal preparing for the Tour de France. It will be a special edition, with quite a few complicated phases, but it does not frighten me.
“I would love to gain a phase once more, like last calendar year.”
Alaphilippe will begin his expression with two races he received previous calendar year, the a person-working day Strade Bianche on August 1 just before the Milan-San Remo a week later.
The 4-working day Criterium begins on August 12 in Clermont-Ferrand in advance of heading east and ending in the Alpine city of Megeve.
Four-time Tour winner Chris Froome, who will depart Ineos for Israel Commence-Up Nation in 2021, was ruled out of very last year’s race after a crash in last June’s Dauphine in which he endured many fractures.
