New Jersey mayor rescinds $2,500 police overtime bill sent to student who organized BLM protest

Kranjac reported Saturday that he sent information to the organizer, Emily Gil, saying he experienced been told “that all private occasions necessitating law enforcement time beyond regulation should really be paid for by the organizers.”

Immediately after holding the protest in July, Gil received a letter from Kranjac that claimed that she owed the borough $2,499.26 for law enforcement overtime.

Gil confirmed that Kranjac had arrived at out but “also made excuses as to why he billed me in the initial position.”

“He stated that it was schedule and that he was given assistance to give me a charge,” she claimed.

“Which would make no sense simply because it wasn’t an formal payment — yet again, it was a letter. He also didn’t apologize to me which is infuriating.”

State legislators identified as the invoice “outrageous” and county officials referred to it as an “onerous cost.”

There have even been phone calls for the ACLU to look into the legality of such a cost.
