John Cleese Sparks Outrage After Tweeting He’s ‘Not That Interested In Trans Folks’

John Cleese angered supporters more than the weekend with a sequence of tweets defending “Harry Potter” creator J.K. Rowling’s controversial sights on transgender men and women. 

In September, the “Monty Python” actor and comic signed an open up letter in solidarity with Rowling, who has frequently created headlines this 12 months following implying on social media ― and in a lengthy essay ― that the thought of gender id invalidates her knowledge as a cisgender lady.

Cleese, who played Approximately Headless Nick in “Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone” and “Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets and techniques,” was requested about his aid for the creator on Twitter Sunday. And later on, he extra, “When a girl who was the moment a male is competing in opposition to gals who have generally been females, I feel she has an edge, for the reason that she inherited a man’s physique, which is normally more substantial and much better than a woman’s.” 

Needless to say, Cleese’s reviews been given a blistering response on Twitter. Among people to chime in was “Queer Eye” grooming expert Jonathan Van Ness, who is nonbinary and who mentioned that “trans & non binary men and women aren’t becoming taken care of kindly” and instructed him to “worry about the staggering inequality your state faces.”

LGBTQ writer and activist Charlotte Clymer shared comparable sentiments. 

“Well, John, we are not currently being taken care of kindly,” she wrote. “And I’m not chatting about cordiality. I’m chatting about discrimination in work, housing, health treatment and other regions of living, all of which is exacerbated when general public figures communicate from ignorance and bigotry on trans legal rights.” 

As of Monday evening, Cleese experienced not responded publicly to the controversy. HuffPost arrived at out to the actor for comment and did not immediately hear back.
